Can somebody help with the marking on a Badische Art. Extra Sabel ? :

Hello Patrick,

you're right, it's an privat bought "Artillerie-Extra-Säbel" of a member of "2. Badisches Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 30", Rastatt.

Official looking marks like "30.A.2.49." are often to be found on privat swords, we think it's a personal identification mark to to differentiate from the similar looking sabers. Contrary to the official marks all letters and numbers on your saber have the same size.

The owner had been a soldier of the second company/battery and probably his official sword had the weapon-no. 49.
