I would like to show you my short sword which, as I believe, is M.1842.
Questions : 1/ how long was it in duty 2/ which units were equiped by.
I know that then came M.1854 but why they changed them when they both
models were very similar.

Das Faschinenmesser ist der niederländischen Artilleriesäbel M.1842 mit dem Abnahmestempel des Kontrolemeester L. Brossois.
Auch fehlt verständlicherweise der badische Abnahmestempel.
Die Scheidenstempel erinnern sehr stark an Inventarstempel des Musée Militaire de Bruxelles. Siehe auch

Yes, missing Baden stamps - that is really serious argument against.
I can´t now find the source which made me think that it is Baden.
