I found the picture of the pallask marked H=W=No.24, and it looks like an emergency weapon M1808 for the danish Navy (or assembled by a collector)- the grib do not seem right.

The good news is that everything is right on this Pallask freuen

This is an Norwegian M 1808. Smith has an description of it in his book from 1939.

So, then you are right ! The Markings are most likley Norwegian.

You mentioned "pistol pair 11 and Pistol pair 37" for the M1772 flintlock pistols - are you shure - I believe, it is repair numbers, to avoid misk/mask when the pistols are in for service. These weapons are more or less made by hand, so the individual parts differs. Over the years I have seen a lot of these pistols, but I have never seen "repair" numbers higher than two ciffres

The number are the pair number. There would have been two pistols with the number 11 and two pistols with Number 37. I know an collector that has an pair with identical numbers. I will see if I can present the photos here.

The number after the N is the issue number, weapons number. The pair number is only relevant within the company and therfore there is no need for higher numbers than two

In "The Journal of the danish Arms and Armour Society" from nov. 2001 there is an artikel made by Erik Troldhuus regarding the problems for the transport between Denmark and Norway during the war with England (1807-14). He shows an order from king Frederik R. dated 1808, and it includes 100 pcs. of blades for pallask M1785 (double edged). His conclussion is, that they are for "The Norwegian Pallask M1808" based upon reduced M1773-hilt and M1785-blade.

The artikel includes a picture of a pallask M1808, and it is just like yours. Unfortunately there is no information about the marking.

Kind regards
Henry

Thank you Henry freuen

I think with the markings we can see on the M 1773 pallsk and the two M 1808 Pallask's you are refering to and what we know about the Norwegian armys organization, we have almost as much information as it is possible to get on how the M 1773 became the M 1808 Pallask's and its markings.

The only missing information is what possably can be found in old military records regarding the numbers issued and too who this Pallask's was issued in 1788.

Best regards,

Arne
